Hi! My name is Bruno A. Rodriguez and I’m from a little but interesting island in the Caribbean called Puerto Rico.  In June 2015, I graduated from The University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (Colegio) with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Biotechnology with a curricular sequence in Italian.  I decided to pursue my Master’s Degree in Forensic Science (Biology track) at Penn State, because it is a unique program that trains you not only in the actual forensic techniques, but also in the research applications this field has.  My future plans envisions a Ph.D. degree in the Biochemistry/Microbiology field, in order to be a college professor and perform research in the Applied Microbial Forensics field.  In my free time, I like to take dance classes at Penn State, participate in the Multicultural Engineering Graduate Association (MEGA) activities and enjoy my life as a professional salsa dancer.

Research Interests

I will be working with Dr. Reena Roy for my research project.  I will be looking at the bacterial degradation of anti-psychotic drugs in postmortem pericardial fluid in order to determine the different drug metabolites present in this fluid.  My project will integrate the disciplines of forensic toxicology and anaerobic microbiology in order to have a holistic understanding of this non-explored but interesting field.
