Hi, my name is Sarah Howshall and I’m from Philadelphia, PA. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from DeSales University, which is a small school near Allentown, PA.  I really enjoyed chemistry, but I was always interested in forensic science. So I decided to continue my education and get a Master’s degree in Forensic Science. I thought Penn State was a great place to go because, not only was their program very diverse, but the faculty was so nice and welcoming. There is a good relationship between the students and faculty. The faculty really wants to help you achieve your goal in any way that they can. Even though this is a big campus, this program is very small and all the professors know who you are, which I liked coming from a small school. Penn State has so much to offer in that there are so many resources available to you. As of right now, my career goal is to work in a government crime lab as a forensic chemist. When I’m not studying, I enjoy hanging out with family and friends and watching movies.

Research Interests

I am working with Dr. Dorman’s research group and my research involves developing an analytical method to identify and quantify various classes of synthetic drugs.
