Introduction to Research

Main Content

RalphMr. Ristenbatt’s research interests revolve around the technologies and techniques associated with crime scene investigation. Current work seeks to identify sources of error and its associated magnitude in the analysis of radial bloodstain patterns, often called impact spatter patterns. Previous research has examined sources of error and magnitude with the identification of projectile trajectories based on the examination of defects in different target surfaces. Ristenbatt is also keenly interested in other phenomena such as the individualization of lip prints, individualization of plastic bags, pattern impression formation in polymeric surfaces, and the fallacy of the so-called “drawback effect.”
