What classes should I take in high school to prepare myself for this major?

Science and mathematics courses will be the best preparation for students who are interested in the forensic science major.  Biology, physics, and chemistry provide a strong foundation for students interested in this course of study.  Algebra, advanced algebra, trigonometry, statistics, and pre-calculus also provide excellent preparation.

How do I apply to the Forensic Science Undergraduate Program?

Applying to Penn State is done through the Undergraduate Admissions application process.

Is this major offered at other Penn State campus locations?

No, to receive a B.S. in Forensic Science you must transfer to University Park your Junior year to complete the program.  This is known as a 2+2 Plan.

What are the Undergraduate entrance to major requirements (ETMs)?

Math 140, CHEM 110, 111, 112, FRNSC 210 with a 2.0 or better and a GPA of 2.0 or better

Can classes taken at another institution count towards my Forensic Science degree at Penn State?

You should consult Getting Penn State Credit and follow the steps noted to see if your classes at another institution would be a direct equivalent for a general education course.

What career opportunities are available to me with a forensic science degree?

There are several career opportunities for graduates with a forensic science degree.  Our graduates possess comprehensive knowledge, skills and abilities making them attractive candidates for jobs in local, state, and federal systems as well as private sector positions.  This B.S. also can be used as a strong undergraduate degree for you to pursue a M.S., Ph.D., medical school, law school, dental school, etc.

You apply directly through Penn State's Graduate School.

Does the Forensic Science program have specific application requirements above the Graduate School?

Yes the program does have specific application requirements above what the Graduate School requires.

What are the Graduate School requirements for admission?

How to Apply: Requirements for Admission to the Graduate School at Penn State which includes: academic eligibility requirements, english proficiency, and degree admission.

What are the Forensic Science Program requirements for admission?

We are looking for students with a strong science BS.  Since this is a scientifically rigorous program, we are looking for students to have the science background required to move forward with their advanced Forensic Science courses.
