Biography

Hi! My name is Bailey Davis. I am from Valrico, Florida, a suburb of Tampa. I graduated in May 2018 with my B.S. in Chemistry, B.A. in Criminology, and minor in Anthropology from the University of Florida. My love of both science and the criminal justice system lead me to pursue a graduate education in forensic science.

I decided to attend Penn State due to the program’s reputation, hands-on approach to learning, their challenging and well-rounded coursework, and the incredible faculty. I also chose Penn State because it gave me the chance to experience living in a new place with an environment very different from where I grew up. In my spare time, I love to play softball, box, or watch a good sci-fi TV show. I also like to read, play the guitar, and cheer for the Tampa Bay Lightning, my Florida Gators, and of course now the Nittany Lions!

I am a member of the Dorman research group. The goal of my project is to determine the organic components present in newer generation e-cigarette liquids via GC/MS. I am focusing on developing a relatively simple method to analyze e-cigarette products, determining whether harmful substances are present in e-cigarette vapor, and comparing results from different brands and devices. I ultimately hope to be able to identify and quantify several targeted compounds in the samples I collect by comparing my results to certified reference materials.
