Erickson Discovery Grant: Eligible to all undergraduates at The Penn State University doing independent research over a summer.  

  • $3,500 can be used to cover living expenses and project costs

  • Application becomes available October preceding the summer of research.


McNair Scholars Program: Eligible to PSU undergraduate students that have completed 36 credits and are a low-income student who are also a first-generation college student or must be a member of a group that is underrepresented in graduate education and have a strong desire to pursue a PhD.

  • Multi-year program that offers many benefits including research funding and graduate school trips

  • Application due during Fall Semester


Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium: Rising Juniors and Seniors who are U.S. Citizens across the state of Pennsylvania in STEM related fields

  • $4,000 per academic year

  • Must apply a year in advanced! Application available in November and due in March for the following academic year


Penn State Undergraduate Research Experience: WISE, MUR, FERP eligible undergraduates at University park. Must contribute 5 hours per week in a lab, scholarships are provided for each semester of participation.

  • WISER:  Women in Science and Engineering Research: Available to freshmen women.

  • MURE: Minority Undergraduate Research Experience: Available to underrepresented minority students who are freshman, sophomores, or juniors

  • FURP: Freshman Undergraduate Research Program: Available to all freshmen; those with economic hardship are encouraged to apply.

  • Applications opens in October, is due in November assignments are announced in December.


NIST Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship: Current undergraduate pursuing a degree in a science, math, engineering, or technology field with at least a 3.0 GPA.

  • Application due in February

The George W. Chin Memorial Scholarship: Eligible grad and undergrad students are currently enrolled in a Forensic Science Program in the NEAFS area and demonstrate academic excellence.

  • $2,000 and a one year associate membership to NEAFS

  • Applications due by April 30th of each year and awarded Sept 1st.

  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty of the forensic science program are required.


George W. Neighbor Jr. Memorial Scholarship: Eligible undergrad students are in their Junior or Senior year currently enrolled in a Forensic Science Program in the NEAFS area and demonstrate academic excellence.

  • Award is $1750

  • Applications due by April 30th of each year and awarded Sept 1st.

  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty of the forensic science program are required.


Carol De Forest Student Research Grant: Eligible grad and undergrad students are currently enrolled in a Forensic Science Program in the NEAFS area and demonstrate academic excellence.

  • maximum award is $2500

  • A maximum of 10% of the budget may be used for travel expenses to attend the NEAFS Annual Meeting where the awardee will give a presentation (oral or poster) of the completed research

  • Applications due by April 30th of each year


American Society of Trace Evidence Examiners Scholarship: Graduate students in the field of Forensic Science who plan on pursuing work in the Trace Evidence field.

  • $500 and a two year membership to ASTEE

  • Application deadline February 15th


ASTEE Research Grant Award: Members of ASTEE who are researching trace evidence

  • $500

  • Application deadline August 1st


ASTEE Student Research Project Award: Any undergraduate or graduate student who is pursuing a BS or higher degree in the natural sciences or forensic sciences and who is performing research in the field of Trace Evidence

  • $250

  • Application deadline December 1st


Forensic Science Foundation Acorn Grants: Open to members and affiliates (at any level) of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences

  • Up to $1500

  • Due June 15th


Forensic Science Foundation Lucas Grants: Open to members and affiliates (at any level) of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences

  • $1501-$6000

  • Due June 15th
